Nungra Nibbles Featured in the Canungra Times – From a Backyard Hobby to an Award-Winning Local Brand

When Eve and I first started making beef jerky at home, we never imagined it would one day be featured in our local newspaper—let alone multiple times.
The Canungra Times has followed our journey from the very beginning, documenting the growth of Nungra Nibbles from a small hobby into an award-winning Australian snack brand.
For us, these stories aren't just newspaper articles. They're milestones that remind us how far we've come.
September 2024 – The Beginning of Something Bigger
In September 2024, the Canungra Times shared the story of how Nungra Nibbles evolved from experimenting with homemade beef jerky into a growing online business.
The article highlighted our simple mission:
"Our business exists to make beef-based nutrition easy."
It also introduced our commitment to:
- 100% Australian grass-fed beef
- Small-batch production
- High-quality ingredients
- Traditional drying methods
- Local Scenic Rim roots
At the time, our products could be found at several local businesses around Canungra while we focused on growing our online store and attending local markets.
Looking back now, it's amazing to see how much has changed since that first feature.

June 2025 – National Chilli Awards Success
Less than a year later, the Canungra Times featured us again after an unforgettable result at the 2025 Mr Chilli Awards.
Our spicy jerky range achieved something we never expected:
🥇 1st Place – Honey Soy Chilli
🥈 2nd Place – Intense Soy Chilli
🥉 3rd Place – Honey Habanero
To make the achievement even more special, we also placed:
🥉 3rd Place – Medium Jerky Category
The article captured exactly how we felt.
"Seeing it recognised like this really makes it worth it."
Those awards were the result of countless recipe tweaks, testing, and learning what customers really loved.
The recognition gave us confidence that we were building something genuinely special.
